It is one of the most popular schools in America, with more than 12,000 students and a school-to-prison pipeline that runs for nearly three decades.
But in the summer months, the school has seen a spike in crime.
On Wednesday, a gunman opened fire inside Hinsdale Hospital in Hillsborough, Florida, killing five people.
On Thursday, police in New York City said a man had opened fire in the same building.
The gunman also shot and killed one officer, a law enforcement official said.
A fifth victim, a nurse, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“I want to give you the utmost respect to the victims that died, and I want to express my deepest condolences to their families and to the community,” Hinsfield Superintendent Eric Jolliffe said.
“We all understand that this is a tragedy that we are all part of, and our hearts are heavy.
We cannot put our hopes and dreams into the hands of a murderer.”
