More than 300 staff from across Ireland lost their jobs as the coronavirus outbreak spreads

More than 270 staff at Northwestern Memorial Hospital have lost their positions as the Ebola outbreak spreads.

The Health Service Executive said the number of staff has increased by one over the past 24 hours, but a spokesman said they are still assessing the situation.

A spokeswoman for the HSE said the staff have been asked to stay in a secure area of the hospital while they are being assessed.

“They will be replaced at the appropriate time,” she said.

The health service has said it has received more than 600 referrals to its isolation units.

It said the total number of confirmed cases at the hospital is now around 4,600.

The number of people in isolation has risen to more than 400.

Earlier this week, the HFEA said it had received 3,817 referrals from local health authorities, with an additional 7,636 from outside the UK.
