Emory Hospitality have told Leeds United they will not be signing Manchester United midfielder Ben Jones.
The 21-year-old was one of the best prospects in the Championship for a long time but he will now have to find a new club.
Leeds, who are second in the table after three matches, are favourites to sign the England Under-21 international.
“I’m delighted with the progress we’ve made in our recruitment process so far and it’s only right that I am given a chance to make the jump to the first team,” Jones said.
“It’s not something I’m overly worried about, I’m excited to get to the next level.”
Leeds are currently seventh in the league, one point behind second-placed Brighton, and are three points behind fourth-placed Sheffield Wednesday.
“We’re delighted with how things have gone,” manager Neil Warnock said.
“I know Ben will do everything he can to make this transition a success.”
